CHARLESTON, SC (02/15/2012)(readMedia)-- Cadet 1st Lt. Michael Joseph Tyo Fox is the 2012 recipient of one of The Citadel's most prestigious awards recognizing cadet excellence and leadership.

Fox will receive the Gen. Douglas MacArthur Foundation award during the Feb. 17 military dress parade at The Military College of South Carolina.

Fox is an Eagle Scout, cadet commander of the Army ROTC battalion, a member of the 2012 Summerall Guards silent drill plattoon, an academic officer in the South Carolina Corps of Cadets and co-captain of the men's soccer team. 

The Gen. Douglas MacArthur Foundation presents its annual award to outstanding cadets of the Association of Military Colleges and Schools of the United States. Cadets are recognized for excelling in athletics, academics and leadership in the Corps of Cadets and excelling by the standards set by the Association of Military Colleges and Military Schools of the United States. The objective is to encourage students to emulate and practice the qualities exemplified by Douglas MacArthur as a cadet at the West Texas Military Institute and the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

The MacArthur award is among the college's most prestigious annual awards presentations.

A resident of Rochester, N.Y., Fox is a senior majoring in business administration. He will be commissioned in the Army in May.
