Civics Bee Tests the Skills of Youth to Win State Fair Honors

DES MOINES, IA (09/08/2023) (readMedia)-- Students put their civics skills to the test in the Iowa State Civics Bee competition at the 2023 Iowa State Fair.

Matilda Peterson of Council Bluffs earned first place. Julia Hines of Mason City received second place, and Maria Perez-Ramirez of Council Bluffs claimed third place.


The Iowa State Fair is one of the oldest and largest agricultural and industrial expositions in the country and the single largest event in the state. The Fair began over 160 years ago and is now considered one of the best events in the nation, attracting more than one million Fairgoers every year from all over the world.
