Classic Steak and Potatoes Judged at State Fair

DES MOINES, IA (09/17/2024) (readMedia)-- Anita Van Gundy of Des Moines won first place, a $200 cash award and a gift certificate for a large Summer Griller Bundle at West Forty Market in the Iowa Steak & Potatoes competition judged Wednesday, August 14, at the 2024 Iowa State Fair.

Jamie Buelt of Polk City earned second place, $100 cash award and a gift certificate for a medium Summer Griller Bundle at West Forty Market. Susan Jones of Winterset claimed third place, $50 cash award and a gift certificate for a small Summer Griller Bundle at West Forty Market.

Entries were judged on taste, creativity and presentation.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There were 140 divisions, 726 classes and nearly 6,400 entries at this year's Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center.
