Classical Guitarist Douglas Rubio to Present Spanish-Inspired Works & World Premiere at Recital

Feb. 28 Faculty Recital Includes First Performance of Piece Penned by Crane Composer David Heinick

POTSDAM, NY (02/17/2011)(readMedia)-- The Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam will present classical guitarist Douglas Rubio in a faculty recital on Monday, Feb. 28 at 7:30 p.m. in the Sara M. Snell Music Theater. The recital will include a world premiere and a performance featuring fellow Crane faculty member Jill Rubio on flute.

Program highlights include "Music from Spain" by Gasper Sanz and Isaac Albéniz, and a set of works by Federico Moreno-Torroba that are inspired by Spanish castles. Flutist Jill Rubio will share the stage with Rubio in a set of tangos for flute and guitar by Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla.

Rubio will also present the world premiere of a new work written especially for him by Crane faculty composer David Heinick.

Composer and pianist David Heinick is a professor of music theory and composition at Crane, where he has taught since 1989. He is the composer of more than 50 works for a variety of instrumental and vocal media, ranging from unaccompanied flute to chorus and symphony orchestra.

Douglas Rubio is a professor of classical guitar at Crane. He has performed throughout the United States as a soloist and chamber musician, and has been the featured concerto soloist with the Montecito (California) and Pennsylvania Centre chamber orchestras, and the Orchestra of Northern New York.

This concert is free, and the public is invited to attend.
