HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (04/20/2011)(readMedia)-- On Tuesday, April 19, Hampden-Sydney College senior John Colbert Lucey presented his Senior Fellowship Project in a public lecture at the College. Colbert is one of a select group of seniors who undertook an extended, interdisciplinary research project which culminated in a public presentation. Although Senior Fellows are undergraduates, they are expected to pursue their research project at a graduate-school level. Each project is evaluated on its originality, on the thoroughness of its research methods, and on the quality of the final presentation. Colbert's project was entitled "The Burgundians: Building Group Identities in Late Antiquity."

A Patrick Henry Scholar, Colbert serves as Manager of the varsity baseball team, is a member of the Class of 2010 Campaign Committee, and participated in a summer research program in Germany. He was the recipient of the Sophomore Academic Excellence Award in 2009. A history major, Colbert is a graduate of St. Mark's School in Southborough, MA, and is the son of the Reverend David J. Lucey and Katherine H. Lucey of Bristol, RI.
