LOCK HAVEN, PA (09/08/2010)(readMedia)-- Colby Hepner, a secondary education/ social studies major at Lock Haven University who is spending the fall of his sophomore year studying at Chungnam National University in Daejeon, South Korea, found his 15 minutes of fame on August 11 when he was featured on the Korean TV show 540 Studio Live.

Produced by the public television station KBS, the TV show focuses on stories of local interest and featured Colby and other international students who were enrolled in Chungnam's Summer International School.

The KBS TV crew filmed Colby during a visit to his Korean host family for dinner. The crew documented Colby eating spicy dishes like Kimchi Jjigae, a spicy cabbage stew. Colby's Korean host father was beaming on camera, proud that Colby would try and like such spicy foods. Back in the studio, the host of 540 Live Studio asked Colby what is the difference between American spicy food and Korean spicy food, to which Colby replied, "Korean spicy food is not only spicy but has flavor, while some American spicy foods, such as hot wings, are just hot."

In an email from Korea, Colby said he was a little embarrassed that the TV host only asked him about food. "Everything is going so great for me! I'm loving Korea so much and all things that it has to offer and I'm making so many friends. I think compared to Americans, Koreans value community/togetherness so much more. I am really enjoying my experience of being part of the Korean community."

Colby, whose hometown is Dalmatia, Pa., made friends with Chungman students who spent the spring semester at LHU, escorting them to on campus cultural events and joining them on trips to Washington DC and New York.

This fall, the Chungnan students get to tour Colby and Lucio Perez '13 around Daejeon, the beginning of a long and successful "community" partnership.
