BATAVIA, NY (07/18/2016)(readMedia)-- Genesee Community College eagerly anticipates its first-ever Cougar Classic Scholarship Scramble golf tournament, which will take place on Monday, July 25, 2016 at Stafford Country Club, 8873 Morganville Rd. (Rte. 237) Stafford. Up to 36 foursomes will take part in the 18-hole event, which tees off in "shotgun" style at 12:30 p.m.

The day begins with registration at 11:30 a.m. with a light lunch available. Beginning at 5:30 p.m., golfers are invited to attend dinner at the course where prize drawings, including a chance at a signed hockey stick by Buffalo Sabres sensation Tyler Ennis, and awards from the afternoon will conclude the event. Games, including a Ken Barrett Chevrolet-sponsored Hole-In-One Challenge, Beat the Pro, Longest Drive (men's and women's), Closest to the Pin (men's and women's) and a Putting Contest, will add fun and excitement to the day and give golfers a chance to walk away with one of a number of prizes.

Honorary Chair Jerry Reinhart ('71) has made a generous donation to the cause and is one of many special guests who will join in on the fun. Former Buffalo Bills Ed Rutkowski, Al Bemiller, Bob Schmidt, Lou Piccone and Booker Edgerson will lend their assistance as extra members of participating teams, and Fleur Remington, Miss New York State from the Sunburst Pageant, is joining the celebration as well.

Ms. Remington, an Alexander High School graduate, attended GCC as a Criminal Justice major before transferring to The College at Brockport where she is currently majoring in Biology with a minor in Forensic Science. The 21-year-old state crown winner would one day like to work for the Monroe County Crime Lab. She tied for fourth place at the Sunburst Pageant last year before returning to claim the title in May.

"I wanted to keep trying for a pageant crown before I aged out," Remington said. "After finishing fourth runner-up last year, I wanted to compete again. I won this year, so I'm glad I went back!"

Remington will represent New York State in this month's Sunburst Pageant International competition in Atlanta, Georgia from July 28 – 31. Top score winners will receive $10,000 and every winner at the final level of competition receives $1,000. Visit with Fleur to find out more about her journey and upcoming competition!
