AIKEN, SC (05/07/2018) This semester, the College Media Association approved the lifetime membership of Peggy Elliot, University of South Carolina Aiken communication professor.

"This is a well-deserved honor. Peggy was actively involved with the CMA, which was not only beneficial for her but for our students as well," said Dr. Charmaine Wilson, chair of the communication department.

"She enriched the education of many students by taking them to the College Media Association conferences so they could attend workshops and learn more about the craft of journalism. The learning gained by attending a conference with professionals and peers from around the region and country can be especially powerful.

"I have no doubt that Peggy Elliott has been an important influence on many aspiring media professionals at USC Aiken."

Elliott who served several years as the advisor for both the Pacer Times and the International Association of Business Communicators retires at the end of this academic year.

She taught several essential communication courses, including: public relations, writing across the media I and II, interviewing techniques, visual communication I and II, feature writing, and public relations writing.

"Professor Elliott has greatly influenced my life from the first time I set foot in one of her classes. She taught me valuable lessons that have stayed with me post-graduation," said Melissa Leitzsy Charles, Class of 2007.

"She's been a great influence, and I'm happy to call her not only a teacher but a friend."

A freelance writer as well, Elliott is often featured in local publications.

"Putting words and images together is exciting, no matter what medium is used, yet it requires an almost overwhelming attention to detail," she said.

"These are not just communication skills; they are life skills: to be careful and imaginative at the same time."
