Common Cause/NY Applauds Sen. Biaggi for Resurrecting the Senate Ethics Committee

NEW YORK, NY (02/28/2019) (readMedia)-- For the first time in recent history, the New York State Committee on Ethics and Internal Governance, chaired by Senator Alessandra Biaggi, met and moved legislation.

In response, Susan Lerner, Executive Director of Common Cause/NY, said:

"Finally the State Senate is taking ethics seriously. Senator Biaggi is clearly committed to running a working ethics committee that reports out bills. This is exactly what we need to address the egregious deficits in the law that have created a culture of corruption. Common Cause/NY looks forward to working together to transform New York state into a true leading light, rather than a national laughing stock."

Today, the Committee moved two pieces of legislation:

  • S2774A: sponsored by Senator Comrie's relates to creating the nonpartisan legislative budget office
  • S3287: sponsored by Senator Krueger requires public officers and bodies to provide interpreters and assistive listening devices for the hearing impaired at public hearings under certain conditions
