Common Cause/NY Calls on JCOPE to Investigate Percoco Misuse of Taxpayer Resources

Times Union article reveals widespread abuse

NEW YORK, NY (07/16/2018) (readMedia)-- On Sunday, The Albay Times Union reported an extensive story about the misuse of government resources by Governor Cuomo's top aide, Joe Percoco, who was recently convicted on corruption related charges. However, the story documents a widespread pattern of abuse, also covered in the New York Times during trial, that indicates potential violations of the Public Officer's Law.

In response, Sarah Goff, Associate Director of Common Cause/NY, issued the following statement:

"The facts presented in the Times Union represent a disturbing pattern by the Governor's top aide of using taxpayer resources for campaign related work, in apparent violation of the Public Officer's Law. Seth Agata, has already testified at trial that he advised Mr. Percoco not to conduct government business while running the Governor's re-election campaign, but JCOPE now needs to do a real investigation of Mr. Percoco's actions to determine the extent of this misconduct."
