Common Cause/NY Responds to Sampson Sentencing
NEW YORK, NY (01/18/2017)(readMedia)-- In response to news reports that former State Senator John Sampson will serve a 5 year sentence for public corruption, Susan Lerner, Executive Director of Common Cause/NY issued the following statement:
"The conviction of former State Senator John Sampson is another sad reminder that New York State is failing - not leading - when it comes to a fair and functional democracy," said Susan Lerner, Executive Director of Common Cause New York. "New York stands to be a true guardian of democracy against the incoming administration, but we can not lead the nation before we restore the people's trust at home. At a minimum the Legislature must pass anti-corruption measures to close the LLC loophole, reform the state contracting process, and modernize our elections."
