Common Cause/NY Statement Disclosure and the Committee to Save New York

NEW YORK, NY (05/18/2012)(readMedia)-- In response to the Commission's request for written comments, later today Common Cause/NY will be submitting recommendations to the Joint Commission on Public Integrity (JCOPE) on the implementation of two disclosure provisions established by the Public Integrity Reform Act of 2011. Specifically, Common Cause/NY recommends that JCOPE look to proposed federal legislation regulating lobbying and to a Washington State statute as models for disclosure of those funding lobbying efforts. Details will be posted later on our website: www.commoncause.org/ny

In light of the public attention to the topic of better disclosure and the anticipated regulations, Common Cause/NY calls on the Committee to Save New York to lead the effort for greater transparency by voluntarily releasing its contributor list, as a gesture of civic responsibility. Given the great interest in the Committee's activities, such voluntary disclosure would be an important act of support for good government principles in what is an increasing effort by the Governor to elevate New York as a reform model for the nation.
