Common Cause/NY and Rock the Vote Announce Launch of Nonpartisan Voter Guide
Guide targeted at NYC millennials
NEW YORK, NY (09/08/2017) (readMedia)-- Common Cause/NY's and Rock the Vote's nonpartisan online voter guide targeted at young voters for next Tuesday's primary election in New York City is now live. Candidates for Mayor, City Council, and Brooklyn District Attorney published responses to questions on a wide range of issues that matter to young voters, from affordable housing to voter engagement to wrongful convictions. Some candidates took advantage of the opportunity to submit videos to supplement the questionnaire.

"Millennials are key members of their communities, and candidates should have to court their votes. Hopefully this guide will help them make it count," said Susan Lerner, Executive Director of Common Cause/NY.
"Tuesday's primary is a key opportunity for young voters to help elect leaders that reflect our values - leaders committed to building a city that works for all New Yorkers," said Rock the Vote Civic Engagement Manager Shaneice Simmons. "We're excited to launch this voter guide with Common Cause/NY and to help young voters across the city make their voices heard at the ballot box."
New York State consistently ranks one of the lowest (number 41) in voter turnout in the nation. In the 2016 election, around 57% of the voting eligible population cast ballots. Common Cause/NY has been fighting for easier elections in New York State. New York currently does not allow early voting, automatic voter registration, or same day voter registration. These hurdles prevent many un-registered people from registering to vote.
Rock the Vote is the largest nonpartisan, nonprofit organization in the country driving the youth vote to the polls. Since 1990, Rock the Vote has fused pop culture, music, art and technology to fulfill its mission of building long-term youth political power. During the past six Presidential elections, Rock the Vote ran the largest voter registration drives for young people and has partnered with more than 25,000 partners through its online, multilingual voter registration tool. Rock the Vote is dedicated to mobilizing the vote, protecting voting rights and advocating for an electoral process and voting system that works for the Millennial generation, America's largest and most diverse population in history.
