Common Cause/NY to Senator Flanagan: There Should Never be a Morality Test to Vote in America

NEW YORK, NY (08/06/2018) (readMedia)-- On Monday, the Daily News reported that state Senate Republicans are planning a public hearing into the restoration of voting rights to people on parole, making sensational claims about who should and should not be able to vote.

Earlier this year, Governor Cuomo granted pardons to more than 24,000 parolees so they can vote.

In reponse to, Susan Lerner, issued the following statment:

"Senator Flanagan's standard is un-American and punitive, and conveniently excludes politicians who have been convicted of public corruption and other anti-social, nonviolent crimes. Does he also think Dean Skelos should be denied the right to vote when he's eventually paroled? There should never be a morality test to vote in America."
