ANNVILLE, PA (11/05/2015)(readMedia)-- Lebanon Valley College's Office of Spiritual Life hosts the choir of the Holy Ghost Russian Orthodox Christian Church to set the stage for the current exhibit on Russian icons in the College's Suzanne H. Arnold Art Gallery. The performance will take place in the Gallery's Zimmerman Recital Hall Sunday, Nov. 15 at 2 p.m.

Holy Ghost Orthodox Christian Church, located in Phoenixville, Pa., is a community of more than 160 families committed to the Holy Orthodox Faith. Susan Koss, who has served as choir director at Holy Ghost Church for more than 35 years, has coordinated the performance. She has been a general music teacher for the past 15 years for the Spring-Ford Area School District. Koss has a bachelor of arts degree in music education from Immaculata College with a major concentration in voice and a minor in piano, and a master of arts degree in education from Rosemont College. She has sung with the Bill Koss Combo and for 18 years and was a piano instructor at Jaworski's Music Centre.

This traveling exhibition, Windows to Heaven: Treasures from the Museum of Russian Icons, which the choral group will accompany, brings together a number of historically significant Russian icons dating from 1590 to the present. St. Nicholas and St. George, Old Testament scenes, and images of the Mother of God are represented in the collection.

"The interaction of the experiences of hearing traditional music with seeing the icons awakens the sense to the richness of both art forms," stated Rev. Paul Fullmer, who serves as chaplain at LVC. "Moreover, visitors' sense of taste will be enhanced," he added. "There will be traditional Russian cookies and tea for refreshment."

The event is free and open to the public. To register, call Natalia Smith at 717-867-6135 or email nsmith@lvc.edu. More information regarding public events sponsored by LVC's Office of Spiritual Life can be found at www.lvc.edu/spiritual-life/concerts-events.aspx.
