Boston Brass Presents Lively and Humorous 'Audience Choice' Concert for CPS Guest Artist Series on Nov. 21

As the 32nd annual McElheran Visiting Artist, Boston Brass will perform for the CPS Guest Artist Series on Saturday, Nov. 21 at 7:30 p.m. in Hosmer Hall at SUNY Potsdam’s Crane School of Music.

POTSDAM, NY (11/02/2015)(readMedia)-- Community Performance Series will welcome the lively ensemble Boston Brass for a one-of-a-kind performance on Saturday, Nov. 21 at 7:30 p.m., in the Helen M. Hosmer Concert Hall at SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music.

The audience will get to vote on the program selections for the second half of the concert, making for an evening that is sure to please. Boston Brass is the 32nd annual McElheran Visiting Artist to perform at SUNY Potsdam through the series.

"Boston Brass is guaranteed to delight any audience with their boisterous and engaging concerts. They play the most-loved and recognizable musical selections, and provide captivating stories and insights behind each song. This performance will be great fun," said CPS Executive Director Amy Flack.

The quintet members will also lead open masterclasses for brass students at The Crane School of Music on Nov. 21, beginning at 11 a.m., followed by a special open masterclass with the student performers of the Frackenpohl Honors Brass Quintet at 12:30 p.m. For location information for these free educational events, please visit www.cpspotsdam.org.

For 29 years, Boston Brass has set out to establish a one-of-a-kind musical experience. The performing ensemble consists of Jose Sibaja and Jeff Conner on trumpet, Domingo Pagliuca on trombone, Chris Castellanos on French horn and Sam Pilafian on tuba.

From exciting classical arrangements to burning jazz standards and the best of the original brass quintet repertoire, Boston Brass treats audiences to a unique brand of entertainment, which captivates all ages. The ensemble's lively repartee, touched with humor and personality, attempts to bridge the ocean of classical formality to delight audiences in an evening of great music and boisterous fun. The philosophy of Boston Brass is to provide audiences with a wide selection of musical styles in unique arrangements, provided in a friendly and fun atmosphere.

For the Potsdam performance, Boston Brass will present their program, "And the Nominees Are...," in which they recognize the composers and works of overall excellence in musical achievement from the world of orchestra, opera, ballet, Broadway, jazz, the big screen and more.

The first half of the program will feature members of the Boston Brass presenting time-honored favorites. The second half will feature audience favorites.

During intermission, Boston Brass will provide an unparalleled level of audience participation, as theatergoers will decide the second half of the program via balloting in the lobby. Each nominated category will include three musical selections to choose from. Patrons will also be encouraged to explain why they chose their selections in the ballot, and the most intriguing stories will be included in the second half music introductions by the Boston Brass!

Audience members will be able to vote for their favorite songs in categories such as movie soundtracks, Broadway moments, movie themes, Las Vegas-style crooner pieces, ballads and closing works.

A 25 percent discount is available when purchasing tickets to three or more CPS Guest Artist Series events. Ticket prices differ depending on the event and location. Discounts are also available for senior citizens, all students and SUNY Potsdam faculty/staff.
