POTSDAM, NY (01/23/2018) (readMedia)-- Community Performance Series will continue its 2017-18 season with a performance by the renowned woodwind ensemble, Windscape. The group (which calls itself the "unquintet") will perform on Friday, Feb. 9 at 7:30 p.m., and will be joined by Crane School of Music students for a select piece during the concert.
The venue for the event has recently changed, and this concert will now take place in the Sara M. Snell Music Theater at SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music.
For their CPS performance, Windscape will present pieces by Ligeti, Reicha, Dvo?ák and Strauss.
"This performance provides the exciting opportunity to present a truly brilliant group of musicians, as well as to engage with and showcase the exceptional talent of our Crane School of Music students," said CPS Executive Director Jason L. Dominie.
Created in 1994 by five eminent woodwind soloists based at the Manhattan School of Music, Windscape has won a unique place for itself as a vibrant, ever-evolving group of musical individualists, delighting audiences throughout the North America. Windscape is comprised of Randall Ellis on oboe, David Jolley on horn, Alan R. Kay on clarinet, Frank Morelli on bassoon and Tara Helen O'Connor on flute.
Windscape's innovative programs and accompanying presentations are created to take listeners on a musical and historical world tour-evoking vivid cultural landscapes of different times and places, through music and engaging commentary.
"For many, the names of the players who make up the woodwind quintet Windscape will have a certain aura - that of the fabulously skilled, much sought-after, and usually footloose New York musician who can tackle anything - repeat, anything," the Boston Globe raved about the group.
