Contestants Find Their Lucky Charms in Iowa State Fair Food Contest

DES MOINES, IA (08/08/2014)(readMedia)-- Judging for the World's Tallest Leprechaun Saint Patrick's Day Treats contest took place prior to the 2014 Iowa State Fair.

Robin Tarbell-Thomas of Centerville claimed first place in the contest while Natalie Ridgway of Johnston grabbed second place. Brenda Becker of Pella rounded out the competition with third.

The contest was judged based on appearance, taste and appropriateness for Saint Patrick's Day.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 226 divisions, 883 classes and over 10,500 entries at this year's Fair. Due to the large number of classes, Food Department judging begins prior to the Fair in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny.

"Nothing Compares" to the 2014 Iowa State Fair, August 7-17. The Fairgrounds are located at East 30th and East University Avenue, just 10 minutes east of downtown Des Moines, and are open 7 a.m. to 1 a.m. each day of the Fair. Exhibit hours may vary.
