Susan Corby recently received a leadership award from the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

SUMMERDALE, PA (02/20/2013)(readMedia)-- Central Penn College Professor Susan Corby of Cressona, Pa., has been awarded the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Leadership Award by the National Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society. The MS Society anonymously selected her to be a part of the MS leadership class, which honors executives for their outstanding contributions to civic, business and cultural betterment of the central Pennsylvania area. She is one of 46 recipients of the award.

Corby is the director of Central Penn College's Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) program. In addition to working a full-time position, she is earning her doctorate from Chatham University.

There were steps leading up to Corby's leadership award. The largest component was for her to conduct a fundraiser to benefit individuals who suffer from MS. She raised more than $1,000 by hosting fundraisers around Central Penn's Summerdale campus.

Corby is quite familiar about the effects MS can cause; she and a colleague ran a support group to assist individuals suffering from the disease. Prior to working at Central Penn, Corby worked as an occupational therapist at a hospital, treating patients with MS. She explained how she could see the direct impact it had on their lives and their families.

"Those affected by multiple sclerosis are near and dear to my heart," says Corby. "I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to participate and be nominated for the award."
