SPRINGFIELD, MA (05/28/2013)(readMedia)-- Corey Brown of Worcester received the CHAMPS/Life Skills Award of Excellence during Western New England University's Cocurricular Awards ceremony. Brown is a senior graduating with a degree in Criminal Justice.

The CHAMPS/Life Skills Award of Excellence is given to a student who best exemplifies the ideals of the CHAMPS/Life Skills program and demonstrates good academic standing, has made a significant impact on his/her team(s), and demonstrated good citizenship.

Developed by the NCAA, CHAMPS/Life Skills program was created to enhance the quality of the student-athlete experience within the context of higher education. CHAMPS stands for Challenging Athletes' Minds for Personal Success. The program provides experiences and services designed to develop well-balanced lifestyles and encourage growth in decision-making, planning, and fulfillment of career and life goals. The five commitment areas of CHAMPS include academic excellence, athletic excellence, personal development, career development, and commitment to service.
