ST. AUGUSTINE, FL (11/18/2013)(readMedia)-- Patrick Moser, associate professor of art at Flagler College, was recently published in the October issue of the Stigmart VIDEOFocus magazine for his video art piece.
Moser was recognized by the publication for his videos including "Saturn Fishing," "86," and "The Raking." In the interview, Moser discusses his personal experience, motivation and inspiration for his art.
"I grew up in the American South where I spent a great deal of my youth playing basketball and fishing," he said. "These experienced shaped me in part, teaching me how to see, how to lose, and how to turn failure into a learning experience."
Two of his videos feature a mask, which has become his performance identity, allowing him to act without being overly self-conscious and simultaneously representing a particular meaning essential to the piece.
"I'm flattered to be included in the issue, as they accepted only about 15 artists from the 700 who applied," he said. "I think it's important that our students understand their professors are artists as well as teachers, actively participating in the rich visual culture we live in."
VIDEOFocus is a web publication produced annually by a team of curators in Paris. Their interest is in digital work that occupies the space between traditional cinema and experimental art.

Flagler College is an independent, four-year, comprehensive baccalaureate college located in St. Augustine, Fla. The college offers 29 majors, 34 minors and two pre-professional programs, the largest majors being business, education and communication. Small by intent, Flagler College has an enrollment of about 2,500 students, as well as a satellite campus at Tallahassee Community College in Tallahassee, Fla. U.S. News & World Report and The Princeton Review regularly feature Flagler as a college that offers quality education at a relatively low cost. A Flagler education is less than half the cost of similar private colleges, and competitive with many state universities. A relatively young institution (founded in 1968), Flagler College is also noted for its historic beauty. The centerpiece of the campus is the former Hotel Ponce de Leon, a grand resort built in 1888 by Henry M. Flagler, industrialist, railroad pioneer and co-founder of Standard Oil. The Ponce has been designated as a National Historic Landmark. For more on Flagler College, visit www.flagler.edu.
