Cortlandt Manor, N.Y. Student Celebrates Anniverary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall in Germany

HAMDEN, CT (11/16/2009)(readMedia)-- Christina Ruperto of Cortlandt Manor, N.Y., a student at Quinnipiac University, recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of the collapse of the Berlin Wall with world leaders and hundreds of thousands of other revelers.
The students saw the leaders of all 27 European Union and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton during the celebration last week. In addition, they were observers at the acclaimed summit, where they were able to ask questions.
David Ives, executive director of the Albert Schweitzer Institute at Quinnipiac University, led a delegation of 11 members of Quinnipiac, including eight students, to Germany to take part in the celebration. Quinnipiac was the only American university to have such access
"It's a historic event of monumental proportions," Ives said. "It's a once in a lifetime opportunity."
Ives, who was invited to represent the late Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Albert Schweitzer, spoke on the poverty in the world and walls between cultures at an annual summit of Nobel Peace Prize Laureates sponsored by the Gorbachev Foundation.
