HAMDEN, CT (12/23/2009)(readMedia)-- Courtney McKenna of Hope, R.I., assistant director of the Carl Hansen Student Center and Student Leadership Development at Quinnipiac University, has been named the Greek Life Administrator of the Quarter by Tau Kappa Epsilon International.

"Ms. McKenna exemplifies the ideal Greek life administrator," said Tom McAninch, director of communication for TKE. "Her passion for the position can be seen each day through the eyes of those she advises, counsels and works with on projects. Since beginning her current post, she has worked vigorously to develop, expand and promote the Greek community."

Since coming to Quinnipiac in 2008, McKenna has expanded the Greek Life community by three groups and plans to continue this trend by identifying others that align with the University's values. So far, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Alpha Delta Pi and Delta Tau Delta Fraternity have successfully expanded. In addition, she has worked with the University's Public Affairs Division to showcase the successes of these expansions for publication in Quinnipiac Magazine. She has also helped update Panhellenic recruitment and worked with both the Interfraternity Council and Panhellenic to strengthen their relationships with key departments within the University.

McKenna said the entire process has been very gratifying professionally and personally. "Getting to know members outside of the role they play within their chapter, watching a member slowly become empowered to change the chapter's culture for the better, seeing a chapter raise thousands of dollars for their philanthropy, or having a faculty member approach me with compliments about a student in one of his or her classes those are my favorite moments," she said.

"The Greek Life at Quinnipiac University is stronger than ever, and Courtney McKenna has been an integral part of ensuring it not only continues, but pushes forward," McAninch said. "Her re-energized enthusiasm for Greek Life has been fueled by the men and women on her campus. The investment of time and energy she puts forth is why she is being recognized as TKE's Greek Life Administrator of the Quarter."

McKenna holds a bachelor's degree in communication studies and French from the University of Rhode Island and a master's degree in human development and family studies from the University of Rhode Island.

Founded January 10, 1899 at Illinois Wesleyan University, Tau Kappa Epsilon is the world's largest social fraternity with chapters on 276 campuses in the United States and Canada.
