Cowgirl Royalty Crowned at Iowa State Fair

DES MOINES, IA (09/06/2022) (readMedia)-- Talena Balasch of Ames was crowned Senior Cowgirl Queen August 12 at the 2022 Iowa State Fair. Elivia Papcun of Norwalk was named Junior Cowgirl Queen.

The Junior Cowgirl Queen Attendants include the four runners-up in the competition for young women ages 10 to 15. The attendants are Maddie Meyer of Clarksville, Kara Flickinger of Earlham, Brooke Myers of Runnells and Gabriella Rumohr of Bloomfield.

The Senior Cowgirl Attendants are selected from competitors ages 16-26 and include Lani Patterson of Norwalk, Sierra Chittenden of Norwalk, Tori Brandt of Ackley and Mckenna Von Rentzell of Earlham.

Both Cowgirl Queens received a $500 cash award sponsored by Dewey Ford Ankeny, a belt buckle sponsored by Cemen Tech, Inc. and a monogrammed chair sponsored by Ellsworth College Equine Program. Their attendants also received cash prizes and chairs.

Judges in the Cowgirl Queen contest considered appearance including beauty, attractiveness and appropriateness of western wear and horsemanship.
