POTSDAM, NY (01/06/2015)(readMedia)-- Superstar soprano Renée Fleming '81 has returned to the Metropolitan Opera stage, leading a new production of Franz Lehár's operetta, "The Merry Widow." The Met: Live in HD will feature the bubbly production on Saturday, Jan. 17.

Fleming stars as the beguiling femme fatale who captivates all Paris in Lehár's enchanting operetta, seen in a new staging by Broadway virtuoso director and choreographer Susan Stroman. Directed by Andrew Davis, "The Merry Widow" features an art-nouveau setting that climaxes with singing and dancing chorus girls at the legendary Maxim's in Paris. Nathan Gunn co-stars as Danilo and Kelli O'Hara plays Valencienne.

North Country audiences won't want to miss the leading lady performance by Crane School of Music alumna Fleming. She will also be joined onstage by a fellow SUNY Potsdam graduate, mezzo-soprano Margaret Lattimore '91, who plays Praskowia in "The Merry Widow."

Lehár's "The Merry Widow" will screen live from the Metropolitan Opera stage at 12:55 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 17 at Potsdam's Roxy Theater. There will be an encore screening at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 25.

The opera will be performed in English. The approximate running time is three hours, including one intermission.
