Crane Faculty Recital Features World Premiere of 'Heartbeat Sutra' on Sunday

SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music Offers Faculty Recital, Including World Premiere, on Sunday, Sept. 14

POTSDAM, NY (09/10/2014)(readMedia)-- SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music will offer a unique concert featuring faculty members and a number of contemporary works on Sunday, Sept. 14 at 7:30 p.m. in the Sara M. Snell Music Theater. This event is free, and the public is invited to attend.

Performers include John Ellis, trumpet; David Heinick, piano; Michelle Martin-Atwood, organ; Charles Guy, tuba; Ethan Cypress, bass; Paul Pearl, percussion, and Christina Komosinski, Tyler Nappo and Jack Dring, all on flugelhorn.

The concert will open with Samuel Adler's "Let the Trumpet Sound," followed by "A Hymn for the Lost and the Living," a 2001 piece by Eric Ewazen for organ.

Then, the audience will experience the world premiere of "Heartbeat Sutra," by Crane faculty composer Jerod Sommerfeldt, featuring Guy on tuba. The performance will continue with "Chamber Music VII: Ceremonies for Trumpet and Piano," by Robert Suderburg.

Following an intermission, Henri Tomasi's "Concert for Trumpet" will be presented. The concert will conclude with "Seasons," a 1973 work by Bob Odeja for flugelhorns, bass and percussion.
