Crane School of Music Hosts Guest Artist Recital Featuring Trombonist Timothy Smith

SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music Welcomes Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra Trombonist Timothy Smith for Performance and Masterclass

Guest artist Timothy Smith, trombone, will present a recital at SUNY Potsdam’s Crane School of Music on Monday, Sept. 28 at 7:30 p.m. in the Sara M. Snell Music Theater.

POTSDAM, NY (09/21/2015)(readMedia)-- SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music will welcome Timothy Smith, trombone, for an upcoming Guest Artist Series recital on Monday, Sept. 28 at 7:30 p.m. in the Sara M. Snell Music Theater.

The performance will include works by Sigismond Stojowski, Jan Koetsier, Josef Matej and Frigyes Hidas.

This event is free, and the public is invited to attend. Smith will also offer a masterclass for Crane trombone students during his visit to campus.

About the performer:

Timothy Smith currently holds the chair of second trombone with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, a position he has had since 2009. Prior to joining the BPO, he performed with the San Diego Symphony and Opera and the Jacksonville Symphony. Smith has also appeared with the Chicago Symphony, San Francisco Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, Toronto Symphony, Boston Pops, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Grant Park Symphony, Baltimore Symphony, Cincinnati Symphony and Opera, Sun Valley Summer Symphony and Chicago's Music of the Baroque. Internationally, he has performed in Germany, Ireland, Mexico and the Dominican Republic, with orchestras and chamber ensembles alike. Smith was a founding member of the Second City Brass Quintet, as well as the CT3 Trombone Quartet, winners of the 2005 ITA International Trombone Quartet Competition. An active clinician and recitalist, Smith is an S.E. Shires Company Artist.
