The 2018 Crane Piano Pedagogy Conference will feature clinician Dr. Vanessa Cornett, who is director of keyboard studies and an associate professor of piano and piano pedagogy at The University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn., and Dr. Kathryn Sherman, an associate professor of piano pedagogy at The Crane School of Music.

The conference will highlight various educational strategies for piano teachers of pre-college students. Topics include mental skills for performance anxiety management, applications of cognitive-behavioral psychology for music teachers, and curriculum development for the emerging intermediate student.

The Crane Piano Pedagogy Conference is open to all piano teachers at no charge, and will take place throughout the day on Sept. 29. All events will take place at SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music.

Cornett will present workshops that illuminate how research in neuroscience, sports psychology and cognitive-behavioral psychology can inform and enhance everyday music teaching. Her session topics include practical tips for more effective teaching and stress management, mental skills for performance anxiety management, and practical applications of cognitive-behavioral psychology for music teachers.

Cornett is an international clinician and author of the forthcoming book, "The Mindful Musician: Mental Skills for Peak Performance."
