Crane Voice and Piano Faculty Present 'A Strauss Celebration' Next Week

Crane School of Music Faculty Perform Works by Richard Strauss in Honor of his 150th Birthday on Oct. 7

POTSDAM, NY (10/02/2014)(readMedia)-- Crane School of Music voice and piano faculty will present a special concert honoring the 150-year anniversary of composer Richard Strauss's birth next week. "A Celebration of Richard Strauss" will be presented on Tuesday, Oct. 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Sara M. Snell Music Theater at SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music.

Faculty vocalists include: sopranos Deborah Massell and Kathleen Miller; mezzo-soprano Lorraine Yaros Sullivan; tenors Donald George and Lonel Woods, and baritone David Pittman-Jennings. François Germain and Kirk Severtson will accompany the performance on piano.

Severtson and Germain carefully handpicked the pieces to be performed, selecting a variety of repertoire from Strauss's large output of art song for members of the voice faculty to sing. Strauss's art song is known for its long, dramatic vocal lines, large ranges and a special attention to creating a musical world for the poetry to inhabit.

This event is free, and the public is invited to attend.

This concert will be broadcast live on the SUNY Potsdam website at the performance time. To view the program and see other upcoming streaming performances, visit www.potsdam.edu/academics/Crane/streaming.
