HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (05/09/2012)(readMedia)-- At Final Convocation on April 26, Hampden-Sydney College senior Crawford Brewton Simpkins received the Minter Award, presented by Professor Frank C. Archer '73, Associate Professor of Fine Arts. The Minter Award was established in 2001 in honor of Owen Randolph Minter '53 by his classmates and friends. It is presented to a student who is a serious singer and has developed the skills for a lifetime of appreciation of vocal music.

Crawford has served on the Student Court, as a Resident Advisor, and as President of Club Lacrosse. He is a member of the College Republicans, The Society of '91 (leadership program), and the Society for the Preservation of Southern Heritage. An economics and commerce major, Crawford graduated from The Miller School in Charlottesville, VA, and is the son of Fred & Marcia Simpkins of Baltimore.

A private college for men, Hampden-Sydney is ranked in the top tier of liberal arts colleges by U.S. News & World Report. The College is known for its liberal arts curriculum, the Honor Code which stresses individual and collective responsibility, and a focus on the needs of young men.
