EASTON, MA (10/08/2009)(readMedia)-- Beginning October 15, the Cushing Martin Gallery at Stonehill College will present What's Left Behind, featuring the photography of Adam Lampton and Millee Tibbs. A reception and artist talk with Lampton and Tibbs will be held on Wednesday, October 21st from 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. in the Cushing Martin Gallery. Featuring images of domestic leftovers, What's Left Behind will be on display until November 6.

Tibbs, a Providence-based artist, will show a selection of her photographs from her Recent Acquisitions series which show the exteriors of homes on the night before trash day.

She documents their trash in a way that almost becomes like a diary entry. The blur between the private/public nature of one's personal rubbish out on the curb has a similarity to diaries that are kept for a certain public future and to the modern day blog.

From these images, we start to imagine potential narratives of why something is being replaced. Did something simply break or was the homeowner able to rise above their previous economic status with new products? One also starts to question how "things" define us, how much do we really need, and when something really deserves to be thrown out.

Lampton, currently a photography professor at Stonehill College, will exhibit works from his Home and Away series. These photographs contain images of objects and fragments of rooms that have been abandoned or damaged.

The feeling of neglect and/or a quick departure creates a strong storytelling impulse. Each image is devoid of people but has a strong human presence that was once there. Actions are made evident by a disheveled cushion, a left-on TV, and candles left to melt away.

Lampton's use of intense color also heightens the drama. As with Tibbs, we are left wondering what happened and why were these things left behind.
