"DEC TV" Kicks off New Year with Green Household Tips for Saving Money, Energy
Web Page Offers Videos on How Small Acts Can Add Up to Big Savings
ALBANY, NY (01/04/2010)(readMedia)-- The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is kicking off the New Year by presenting a series of online videos highlighting small actions that can add up to big household savings this winter. Each day this week, "DEC TV" will provide green tips for saving money and energy in the kitchen, bathroom, basement and other areas.
These short, handy features will cover topics such as sealing drafty doors and windows, improving water heater efficiency, lowering energy costs while you're at work or on vacation and preventing radiator-generated heat from escaping to the outside. The daily videos will be available at DEC's homepage, www.dec.ny.gov. Also, the series of videos will be available on the DEC TV web page (details below).
"Who doesn't want to save on home energy costs during a New York winter?" said DEC Commissioner Pete Grannis. "With these simple tips featured on DEC TV, homeowners can reduce their bills and run their household in a more environmentally friendly way. Better heat, less waste and money saved – that's an easy New Year's resolution everyone can achieve."
Last year, DEC took another step in providing an engaging multi-media Internet experience to its users by launching "DEC TV," a video platform offering content on a range of outdoor experiences from across New York. DEC TV (http://www.dec.ny.gov/dectv/dectv134.html) features short clips on outdoor recreation opportunities such as hiking in the Adirondacks, angling for bluefish off Long Island and canoeing the Hudson and Buffalo rivers. And it also provides information on wildlife, plants and important environmental programs, such as tagging moose and Atlantic sturgeon for research purposes and cultivating "urban forests" in cities. The five green household segments unveiled this week will center on windows and doors, kitchens, bathrooms, hot water heaters and washing machines.
