DHCR and Neighborworks to Hold Free Housing Counseling Training in Syracuse

November 5 through 7

ALBANY, NY (11/05/2008)(readMedia)-- As a part of the ongoing comprehensive foreclosure prevention effort in New York State, the New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal (DHCR) and Neighborworks Center for Homeownership Education and Counseling (NCHEC) are teaming up to hold free Housing Counseling Training in Syracuse November 5-7. Housing Counseling professionals will learn the skills needed to assist homeowners at risk of foreclosure.

The two day training event being held at the offices of the US Department of Housing and Urban Development in Syracuse is the first of a two year training plan to ensure that housing counseling agencies have the requisite skills necessary to assist New York homeowners facing default and foreclosure. Response to the training opportunity was exceptional as capacity was reached more than two weeks before the planned event.

Topics to be covered include: loan origination, processing, underwriting, closing, servicing, conventional and FHA loan products, credit scoring, appraisals, subprime loans, and predatory lending.

Training is part of the New York State Subprime Foreclosure Prevention Services Program developed to provide counseling, education, and legal services to New York homeowners facing default or foreclosure. The program is administered by DHCR and the Housing Trust Fund Corporation (HTFC), in consultation with the New York State Banking Department, the Office of Court Administration, and the State of New York Mortgage Agency (SONYMA).
