Daily Scratch-Off Player Wins $1,000,000 Making Her Otsego County's Newest Lottery Millionaire
GARRETTSVILLE, N.Y (08/16/2012)(readMedia)-- The New York Lottery today announced that Doris Hoag of Garrettsville is Otsego County's newest Lottery millionaire. Hoag won the $1,000,000 top prize on the $1,000,000 Cash Bingo scratch-off game.
Hoag bought her winning $1,000,000 Cash Bingo scratch-off ticket on July 17 as part of her daily routine. Every day, she drives into Oneonta, has her breakfast, and then heads over to the Quickway on State Route 23 to buy her Lottery tickets. That Tuesday, Hoag bought three tickets. The first ticket she scratched was not a winner, but the second one was a $1,000,000 winner. Hoag gave her third ticket to her sister because according to Hoag, "I didn't need it anymore."
Hoag drove to the Lottery's Customer Service Center in Schenectady to claim her winning ticket later that same day.
The top prize on the $1,000,000 Cash Bingo scratch-off game is paid as a single, lump sum payment. Hoag will receive a net check totaling $661,800 after required withholdings.
Hoag said she always told herself that if she ever won a big Lottery prize, she would quit playing because then she'd "finally be even." Hoag celebrated her 85th birthday yesterday.
The New York Lottery contributed $10,451,063.44 in Lottery Aid To Education to school districts throughout Otsego County during fiscal year 2011-12.
About the New York Lottery
The New York Lottery continues to be North America's largest and most profitable Lottery, contributing nearly $2.9 billion in fiscal year 2011-2012 to help support education in New York State. The Lottery's contribution represents nearly 15 percent of total state education aid to local school districts.
New York Lottery revenue is distributed to local school districts by the same statutory formula used to distribute other state aid to education. It takes into account both a school district's size and its income level; larger, lower-income school districts receive proportionately larger shares of Lottery school funding.
