Dandy Desserts Win State Fair Honors

DES MOINES, IA (08/23/2017) (readMedia)-- Anita Van Gundy of Des Moines won first place and a $200 gift card in the Best Dessert Using Any Keebler Product competition, judged Saturday at the 2017 Iowa State Fair.

Kortnee Stewart of Cedar Rapids earned second place and a $150 gift certificate. Brian Keul of West Des Moines claimed third place and a $100 gift card.

Judges also awarded Honorable Mention to Olivia Smith of Winterset and Bridget Lottman of Norwalk.

Contestants were challenged to create an award worthy dessert using at least one Keebler product.

Entrants were judged on taste, creativity and appearance.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There were 177 divisions, 769 classes and over 9,856 entries at this year's Fair. Food Department judging was held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny Ice Cream.
