SPRINGFIELD, MA (11/28/2011)(readMedia)-- Danielle Gwozdz of Pittsfield was recently named a recipient of the Skookum Award, an honor presented by Western New England University's Alumni Association. The Skookum is awarded to students who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence in all their endeavors: academics, co-curricular activities, sports, and community service. "Skookum" is a Native American Chinook Indian word meaning "excellence." Gwozdz was one of 15 outstanding senior students to receive the award during the University's Homecoming Weekend.
An English Literature major, Gwozdz' involvement on campus spans many clubs and associations including Peer Advising, Residence Hall Association, Class Council, and the Pre-Law Society, where she serves as Vice President. She holds leadership positions with the Omicron Delta Kappa and Mortar Board honor societies. Off campus, Gwozdz has volunteered with the Holyoke Soldiers' Home and the annual Rays of Hope breast cancer walk.
