ELIZABETHTOWN, PA (11/10/2010)(readMedia)-- David E. Hosler '72 was named to the Association of Governing Boards' (AGB) Council of Board Chairs. The Elizabethtown College alumnus -- who has served on his alma mater's Board of Trustees since 1995 -- will fill a three-year term on the 20-member advisory body, which provides advice and counsel to the AGB, a national association that advances the practice of citizen trusteeship and helps ensure the quality and success of our nation's colleges and universities.
Hosler -- who is chief operating officer of Murray Risk Management and Insurance in Lancaster, Pa., and a resident of Lititz, Pa. -- is chairman of Elizabethtown College's board of trustees. In this leadership position, Hosler partners with the College's other board members, administration and faculty to set the direction of the institution's programs. Through their work, Elizabethtown College's students are encouraged to expand their intellectual curiosity and are given the opportunity to become an important part of the bigger world.
According to Elizabethtown College President Theodore E. Long, Hosler's appointment to the Council of Board Chairs not only recognizes his years of experience with board oversight and his outstanding leadership skills, but also is a tribute to the effectiveness of the board he leads. "Since accepting the position as chairman of Elizabethtown's board of trustees, David Hosler has devoted considerable effort to initiatives that have significantly strengthened the College," says Long. "In addition, he has instituted best practices in board governance and has successfully built a partnership with faculty leadership. His wise counsel and thoughtful colleagueship have nourished an exceptionally productive relationship with Elizabethtown's senior leadership team."
Over the past dozen years, Hosler has partnered with the College's administration to launch initiatives that have strengthened the quality of the institution's faculty and improved its long-term financial health and facilities. "Every day, our 1,900 students benefit from the Elizabethtown education that David has positively influenced. Our distinguished faculty is composed of gifted teachers and learned scholars in part because of his encouragement toward excellence. And, our beautiful campus is highlighted by buildings that were envisioned and realized under his leadership," Long continues. "The AGB, and our nation's colleges and universities, will certainly benefit from David's wisdom."
In addition to serving on Elizabethtown College's board, Hosler has been called to leadership positions in more than two dozen local and national organizations, including Brethren Village, for which he served as a board member for two decades. Currently, he is a board member for PNC Bank – Central PA Advisory Board, the Housing Development Corporation, the Parish Resource Center, and the Rotary Club of Lancaster.
