MOUNT VERNON, IA (11/02/2011)(readMedia)--  David Korslund, originally of Eagle Grove, Iowa, was given the Leadership and Service Award at the 2011 Cornell College Homecoming Convocation.

Korslund, class of 1976, was honored for his work with sustainable banking and his willingness to share his experience with Cornell students.

Since 2009 he has been a senior advisor at the Global Alliance for Banking on Values in The Netherlands, a group of banks that use finance to build a more sustainable future for the environment and underserved people and sectors. In 2010, he returned to Cornell to speak to students in a workshop about your role at the Alliance and about the importance of sustainable banking. He spoke about using money as a tool for enhancing the quality of life through human, social, cultural and environmental development. He also emphasized the importance of transparency, trust, clarity, and inclusiveness in delivering products and services. 

In the citation, Alumni Association President Allan Ruter, class of 1976, said Korslund's career was a testament to the value of a liberal arts education.

Starting with South Shore Bank after graduation and receiving an MBA in Finance and Accounting from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, Korslund has been involved in finance for 35 years. He's worked at banks around the world, most recently at ABN AMRO Bank in the Netherlands, wherehe served as executive vice president from 2002 to 2009.
