David L. Kuhns honored by Denison University with Alumni Citation

GRANVILLE, OH (06/29/2012)(readMedia)-- David L. Kuhns, of Bronxville, NY, a 1968 graduate of Denison University, was honored by his alma mater with an Alumni Citation at a ceremony during the college's annual Reunion Weekend convocation on Friday, June 8. The Citation is the highest honor Denison bestows upon its most distinguished alumni, recognizing outstanding contributions to the professional, civic, business or religious life of the nation and the advancement of the college.

In awarding the Citation, Denison President Dale T. Knobel said, "We honor David Kuhns '68, for his brilliant ability to communicate, adapt, and affect lasting, positive differences in our changing world."

Kuhns is a founding board member of The Armory Foundation, which among other activities runs the premier indoor track and field center in America and the largest high school sports competition in New York City. He oversees the organization's education initiatives, including Armory College Prep, an afterschool academic program that helps students from the City's highest need public high schools enter and complete college. Each year more than 250 student athletes participate in Armory Prep's winter and summer programs. To date Armory Prep has been instrumental in assisting more than 500 inner-city high school graduates gain access to and pay for college.

Kuhns also is cofounder and advisor to Tooble LLC, an educational software development company located in New Haven, Conn. In addition, he serves as managing director of Banyan Group ESC, an executive search and management consulting firm.

A retired broadcaster and communications lawyer, Kuhns co-founded Citicom Broadcasting Co., an owner/operator of radio stations in New York and Massachusetts. He also served as assistant general counsel for HBO and earlier as an appellate litigation lawyer for the Federal Communications Commission.

Kuhns has remained an active Denison alumnus. He helped found the Denison University Venture Philanthropy Club (VPC), an investment partnership that provides capacity-building grants and student support to selected nonprofit organizations in Licking County, Ohio. This year the organization will make its fifth venture philanthropy investment. VPC has positively impacted the lives of many people in Licking County. Its efforts have brought distinction to its members and credit to the university.
