Department of Taxation And Finance Announces Closure Of Call Center During Employee Furlough

Web Site Provides Access For Taxpayers Seeking To Conduct Business

ALBANY, NY (05/12/2010)(readMedia)-- New York State Department of Taxation and Finance Acting Commissioner Jamie Woodward today announced that the Department's call center will be closed on May 21 during a one-day furlough for unionized state employees, and that taxpayers will be able to use the Department's web site to transact business on that day.

Since the call center will be closed on that day, those taxpayers who need to pay a bill or look up information regarding their income tax refund status should use the Department's web site at www.nystax.gov.

In addition, there will still be some services available via the Department's automated voice response telephone systems.

While the furlough will impact some services provided to the public, the Department determined that a single furlough day would be the least disruptive to taxpayers seeking services through our call centers.

The Department receives the lowest volume of incoming calls on Fridays and there are no major tax filing deadlines scheduled for May 21.
