Des Moines Women Claim State Fair Biscuit Baking Supremacy

DES MOINES, IA (08/19/2019) (readMedia)-- Anita Van Gundy of Des Moines won first place and a $75 cash award in the Clabber Girl Biscuits competition, judged Thursday, at the 2019 Iowa State Fair.

Linda Anderson of Urbandale earned second place and $50. Alisa Woods of Des Moines claimed third place and $25.

Contestants were tasked with creating award winning biscuits using Clabber Girl baking Powder.

Entries were judged on texture, taste, and originality.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 166 divisions, 715 classes and over 7,300 entries at this year's Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny Ice Cream.
