Diehl named PSAC Men's Cross Country Freshman of the Year
Andrew Diehl (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) of the Kutztown University men's cross country team has been named the 2023 PSAC Freshman of the Year, as announced by the conference office Thursday afternoon, Dec. 14.
Diehl was spectacular in his first season in the Maroon & Gold and becomes only the second runner in program history to earn this award, joining two-time national qualifier and four-time All-PSAC finisher Steve Maine (2014).
The Carlisle native paced the Golden Bears in four out of six meets this season and was the highest freshman finisher at the PSAC Championship at Bloomsburg in October, coming across the line in 16th for an All-PSAC Second Team finish. His performance at PSACs lifted KU to a sixth-place team finish, the highest for the program since 2019.
Diehl opened his collegiate career with a first-place finish at the Panthers XC Invite. He then racked up three more top-20 finishes and an impressive 24th-place finish at the Lehigh Paul Short Run in September.
Shippensburg's Garrett Quinan was named the PSAC Athlete of the Year along with his coach Steve Spence, who was named the PSAC Coach of the Year.
