Disaster drill planned at Paul Smith's College

PAUL SMITHS, NY (04/04/2013)(readMedia)-- A full-scale emergency management exercise will be staged at Paul Smith's College on Thursday, April 11. Media are invited to cover the drill both as a live event and to get a behind-the-scenes look at the college's emergency operations center during the incident.

The drill will test the effectiveness of the college's emergency-management plan and involve a wide group of staff, faculty and students, some of whom will play the role of sick or injured people.

Details of the drill, which is being developed by outside experts, won't be divulged to the campus community or others involved until the event itself. (The campus community has been informed that a drill will be occurring on that day.)

Personnel from area law enforcement agencies, fire departments, rescue squads and other groups will also be involved in the exercise.

WHAT:

A full-scale emergency management exercise will test the college's ability to respond to a campus emergency, and recover from it. Buildings may be evacuated and access to parts of campus may be restricted during the drill. Within 30 days of the drill, the event organizers will submit a written evaluation of the campus' response.
