BATAVIA, NY (03/17/2017) (readMedia)-- Have you ever wanted to explore fashion design or expand your wardrobe? Have you tried to sew but found it frustrating? Are you interested in fabric and textiles or making your own clothing? The Business and Employee Skills Training (BEST) Center at Genesee Community College welcomes young and old, men and women, girls and boys to the newly established learn how to sew program offered this summer at both the Batavia Campus and the Lima Campus Center.

Professor Donna Ehrhart is the lead faculty member of the Fashion Design program at GCC and she will guide students through the four-day course. Participants will learn how to fit a pattern, use dressmaking tools, operate a sewing machine, follow basic pattern instructions and learn marking symbols, layout and cut pattern on fabric, assemble and mark pieces for sewing, measure and sew seams, and add finishing techniques.

In addition, students will also explore the fashion industry, fashion design and fashion merchandising. This beginning sewing course exposes students to textiles, fabrics and an array of exciting opportunities! As students develop their sewing skills set, the finished pajama project can be added to portfolio to showcase design and growing talents!

The course is available to anyone nine years and older, and the cost is $249 and includes all materials. Each participant will finish the course with their own comfortable pair of pajama bottoms. The course is offered two times this summer, specifically:

Lima Campus Center: Monday–Thursday, July 10 – 14, 2017 from 8–11:30 a.m.

Batavia Campus: Monday–Thursday, July 17 – 20, 2017 from 8–11:30 a.m. in room D256.

GCC'S Lima Campus Center is located at 7285 Gale Road, Lima, NY 14485 (just one mile north of Lima on Route 15A). The Batavia Campus is located at One College Road, Batavia, NY 14020. For door-to-door directions visit: http://www.genesee.edu/about/visit/maps.
