Dormitory Authority Holds Innovative Sustainability Training for State Agencies/Authorities
Media Advisory for Event on Tuesday, January 12
ALBANY, (01/11/2010)(readMedia)-- The Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY) will host "Smarter Business," a groundbreaking training session in Albany and New York City on January 12 to assist state agencies to comply with policy goals boosting energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.
"Green" is a vehicle to achieve better business practices and stronger cost awareness and control. This training will use the documentary film "so right so smart", which highlights businesses that have improved their bottom lines by greening their work product and processes, as a compelling springboard for discussions. After the documentary, workshop style education sessions will explore ways in which DASNY and other state agencies and authorities can better serve the people of New York while reducing our carbon footprint to safeguard the environment and cut costs to safeguard taxpayer resources.
Jim Hartzfeld, Chairman of the Board of the U.S. Green Building Council, will lead the four-hour session in Albany by exploring the concept that "waste is anything that does not serve our client." This discussion will help identify ways to effectively achieve New York State sustainability goals while saving money. Existing policies in New York include Executive Orders requiring state entities to reduce waste and paper use, create sustainability plans, eliminate single-use water bottles, increase energy efficiency and use more alternate-fuel fleet vehicles.
The session is open to Dormitory Authority staff as well as the sustainability coordinators of state agencies and authorities.
