ANNVILLE, PA (03/24/2011)(readMedia)-- Dr. Alan Kraut, history professor at American University, will present "Who Heals the Stranger? The Provision of Healthcare in Immigrant Communities" as a part of Lebanon Valley College's HEALTH Colloquium on Apr. 14 at 11 a.m. in Neidig-Garber Science Center room 203. He will discuss the hot-button healthcare issue in immigrant communities in a historical context. Admission is free and open to the public.

Kraut is a non-resident fellow of the Migration Policy Institute in Washington D.C., and specializes in U.S. immigration and the history of medicine in America. His research has been supported by the Rockefeller Foundation, the Smithsonian Institute, and the National Institutes of Health.

Additionally, he is the chair of the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island History Advisory Committee and is a historical consultant for PBS and History Channel documentaries. He was elected fellow of the Society of American Historians in 2009.

HEALTH is a year-long integrated series of guest speakers and films that highlight and inform the various factors involved in society's consideration of its health policy. It will involve discussions on the politics of health care reform, sickness, aging, fitness, mental and eating disorders, and spiritual well-being involving thinkers and speakers from the sciences, arts, and public policy.
