Dr. Heidi Freeman was named assistant professor of exercise science and wellness management at University of the Sciences.

PHILADELPHIA, PA (11/12/2012)(readMedia)-- Dr. Heidi Freeman was named assistant professor of exercise science and wellness management at University of the Sciences.

Prior to joining USciences, Dr. Freeman worked for the US Army in the Comprehensive Soldier Fitness Program where she taught mental skills and resilience to soldiers and their family members. She also served as a research assistant at Temple University's Center for Obesity Research and Education and taught as an adjunct professor at Temple University, Wilmington University, and Neumann University.

Dr. Freeman earned her PhD in kinesiology (exercise sciences) with a specialty in sport and exercise psychology from Temple University, and an MA in counseling psychology from LaSalle University. She also holds a BA in psychology from Miami University of Ohio. While earning her master's and PhD, Dr. Freeman worked at the Renfrew Center as well as at a summer camp program for children with behavioral and emotional issues.

Interestingly, Dr. Freeman was a professional ice skater and competed in synchronized ice skating at Miami of Ohio where the team won a national title. Following her collegiate career, she skated for five years in ice shows and variety shows across the country. It was her sports background that led to her interest in sport psychology.

Originally from Mentor, Ohio, Dr. Freeman currently resides in Tabernacle, N.J., with her husband Jay, who was also an ice skater and is now general manager for the Virtua Center Flyers Skate Zone in Voorhees, N.J., and their son J.P.
