Dr. Tamar Klaiman has joined the Department of Health Policy and Public Health at University of the Sciences as an assistant professor.

PHILADELPHIA, PA (10/15/2012)(readMedia)-- Dr. Tamar Klaiman has joined the Department of Health Policy and Public Health at University of the Sciences as an assistant professor.

Dr. Klaiman most recently taught as an assistant professor of health policy at Thomas Jefferson University's School of Population Health where she conducted public health systems and services research and taught Population Health Management. Prior to working at Jefferson, Dr. Klaiman completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the O'Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law and served as a research assistant professor in the School of Nursing and Health Sciences at Georgetown University.

Dr. Klaiman was a research associate at Temple University's Center for Preparedness Research, Education, and Practice (C-PREP), where she played an integral role in emergency preparedness and response in the Philadelphia region. Dr. Klaiman has worked with the Philadelphia Department of Public Health and Pennsylvania State Department of Health on vulnerable populations and points of dispensing (POD) planning. She is certified in Psychological First Aid and worked with the Philadelphia Department of Behavioral Health to create their Continuity of Operations Plan, and helped to develop a Behavioral Health Reserve Corps training program.

Dr. Klaiman's research focuses on positive deviance methodology to define and learn from high performing individuals, institutions and organizations in order to improve public health system performance. The Pfizer Corporation, California Health Care Foundation, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation funded Dr. Klaiman's research. Her research has focused on emergency preparedness policy creation and implementation, pandemic response, and clinical disease registries for public reporting.

Dr. Klaiman, who hails from Glenside, Pa., received her PhD and MPH degrees from Temple University and a BA in international affairs from The George Washington University.
