Drainage Work just South of Interchange 23 (Downtown Albany, I-787 & Route 9W) to Necessitate Lane Closures
Motorists May Experience Minor Delays
ALBANY, NY (11/06/2009)(readMedia)-- The New York State Thruway Authority today announced ongoing drainage work will necessitate lane closures in both the northbound and southbound directions, just south of Interchange 23 (Downtown Albany I-787/Route 9W) on beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, November 9, 2009, weather permitting. During the scheduled work, motorists may experience minor delays.
On Monday, November 9, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. and Tuesday, November 10, from 9 a.m. until noon, the left northbound and southbound lanes, from milepost 141.0, just south of Interchange 23, to milepost 142.0, just north of Interchange 23, will be closed. These closures will impact both northbound and southbound traffic on the mainline of the Thruway as well as traffic exiting and entering at Interchange 23.
On Wednesday, November 11, there will be no scheduled lane closures due to the Veterans Day Holiday.
On Thursday, November 12, from noon until 2 p.m. and Friday, November 13, from 9 a.m. until noon, the left northbound lane, from milepost 141.0, just south of Interchange 23 to milepost 142.0 will be closed. This closure will impact northbound traffic on the mainline of the Thruway near Interchange 23.
The Authority will activate its Dynamic Message Signs (DMS) in advance of the area as well as activate its Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) to provide motorists with notice of required lane closures.
Motorists are reminded to remain alert and aware of their surroundings while traveling through the work zone. Motorists should also keep in mind that speeding fines are doubled in work zones.
This work is being completed as part of the on-going $4.98 million roadway resurfacing project between Interchange 23 (Downtown Albany, I-787) and Interchange 24 (Albany, I-87/I-90). The project also includes paving the entrance and exit ramps of Albany Interchanges 23 and 24, Schenectady Interchange 25 (I-890) and Schenectady Interchange 25A (I-88). The project, scheduled for completion in November 2009, is being completed by Callanan Industries Inc. of Schenectady, New York.
The Authority appreciates motorists' patience and understanding while this essential project takes place.
