Drywall Finishers Recruit Apprentices

LONG ISLAND CITY, NY (10/04/2011)(readMedia)-- The District Council #9, Joint Apprentice and Training Fund, will conduct a recruitment from October 3, 2011 through October 14, 2011, for fifty drywall finisher apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.

Applications must be obtained in person only at District Council #9, 45-15 36th Street, Long Island City, NY. This is a limited application recruitment and only 500 applications will be given out beginning Monday, October 3, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., for a period of 10 business days or until all applications are exhausted, whichever comes first.

The Committee requires that applicants:

* Must be at least 18 years old.

* Must have a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (G.E.D).

* Must be physically able to perform the work required as determined by site evaluation and attesting to the physical conditions listed on the application which include:

o Working at heights

o Working in all kinds of weather

o Able to lift and carry heavy equipment

o Able to travel through the five boroughs to reach job sites

* Must attend a three day Orientation.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
